How to Reveal a New Knee

Every pair of RenewaKnee™ joggers has two layers at each knee. If the outer one wears through, you don't need a new pair. You just need a pair of scissors.

Snip and peel, step by step

  1. Pick your moment.

If a knee is worn, or you're ready for a fresh look, it's time.

  2. Snip the securing stitch.

A securing stitch runs around the edge of the outer knee layer. Slip small scissors under it and snip. It's okay to snip into the outer layer, since it's coming off. Just keep the scissors off the layer underneath. Starting at the top edge works well. A grown-up should handle the scissors.

  3. Peel it away.

Peel the worn outer layer off and pull out any leftover thread. Underneath is a clean, fresh knee, and if you picked a graphic, the hidden character or design.

  4. Ready for action.

That's it. About 15 seconds, and the pants keep going.

Questions parents ask

Do I need to sew anything?

No. Snip the securing stitch, peel the worn layer away, and pull out any leftover thread. It takes about 15 seconds.

Is this the same as regular double-knee pants?

Both have two layers at the knee, but on regular double-knee pants the outer layer is there for good, even once it has a hole in it. RenewaKnee™ joggers are built so you can snip the securing stitch and peel the worn layer away cleanly, revealing a fresh knee underneath.

What's under the outer layer?

A fresh knee, and if you chose a graphic when you ordered, a hidden character or design.

What if only one knee wears through?

Each knee is separate, so you can renew them one at a time, whenever a knee is worn or whenever you're ready to reveal the fresh layer. The other knee keeps its outer layer until you want to change it.

What happens if the second layer wears through?

If both layers on a knee wear through, that knee will have a hole. If that happens within six months of purchase, our 6-Month Knee Guarantee has you covered: email us at hello@chakiboo.com and we'll replace the pair in the same color and size. See the full guarantee terms.

Can I wash them after removing the outer layer?

Yes. After you peel off the outer layer, pull out any leftover thread. Then care stays the same as before: machine wash cold with like colors, tumble dry low, and no bleach. If you iron, use a cool iron and skip over the graphic.
